How can I detect a blocked drain?
The main signs include a gurgling or gulping sound and a smelly drain grate coming from the floor
waste or toilet when using the water.
If the water level in the toilet is above or below of its normal levels, and/or the drain outside the
house overflowing then you might have a blocked drain issue. The floor waste overflowing during a
shower may also indicate a blockage.

How can I prevent a blocked drain?
A sewer choke is a blockage in a wastewater pipe. It is usually caused by tree roots that have found a way

Leaking taps or toilet?
A few simple ways to look for leaks:
• Check your hot water system's expansion valves: the valve shouldn't be constantly leaking water.
• Check your taps and toilets regularly for signs or sounds of leaks.
• Disconnect hoses that are always connected to garden taps. Then check these taps aren't leaking.
• Place a small piece of dry toilet paper at the back of the toilet bowl and check that it stays dry until
the next flush. Toilet cisterns should not release any water between flushes.
• Toilet cistern should not continuously run water, if you hear the running water all the time, ring us.
• Look for green patches of grass that are different from the grass around it. This can mean
you have an underground pipe leak.
